Is Your Website Content SEO-Ready?
A quick guide to better visibility.
By Annalise Grinter
Whether you’re uploading a product, posting a blog, sharing a reel, or updating your homepage — everything you publish online affects your SEO.
And if you’re using Shopify (or any ecommerce platform), getting the basics right can mean the difference between being found… or being forgotten.
This blog outlines simple, essential SEO habits that will help more of the right customers find your store — without needing to be an expert.
Start by Thinking Like a Customer
Before you upload anything, ask yourself:
- What is this about?
- What would someone type into Google to find it?
If you sell eco-friendly homewares, a customer might search for:
“Sustainable kitchen storage” or “Plastic-free lunchbox Australia”
If those phrases don’t appear in your product titles, descriptions, image names or meta fields, Google won’t know to serve up your content.
Pro tip: Use clear, human-friendly language that includes real search terms. Avoid keyword stuffing — just aim for clarity.
Optimise Your Product Pages
Shopify makes it easy to control how your content appears in search engines — you just need to use the tools available.
Checklist for product pages:
- Page Title: This becomes the clickable headline in search results. Make it keyword-rich and relevant.
- Meta Description: Write a short sentence that explains what the product is and why someone should click.
- Product Description: Naturally include keywords your audience is searching for.
- Image File Names and ALT Text: Rename your image files before uploading (e.g.
linen-tablecloth-sage.jpg) and describe what’s shown in the ALT text.
Blogs, Pages and Collections Matter Too
Your blog is one of your most powerful tools for SEO. Every blog post you publish is a new opportunity to attract traffic.
Tips for better blog visibility:
- Use clear, keyword-rich headings and subheadings
- Keep the URL short and descriptive
- Link to other relevant pages or products on your site
- Include visuals (images or videos) to support the content and improve on-page engagement
- Example:
Instead of/blog-2025-08-07, use/how-to-style-a-bedroom-with-lighting
Using YouTube or Video? Optimize That Too
Videos, especially if embedded or shared on your site, are powerful SEO assets.
Make sure to:
- Use a clear, keyword-focused video title
- Add a description that includes relevant search terms
- Tag the video appropriately
- Embed videos into relevant product pages, blog posts, or FAQs to boost engagement
Cross-Promote and Reuse Content
To maximise reach and visibility, your content needs to live in more than one place.
- Link your blog posts in email newsletters
- Share your product or blog links on social media
- Embed videos on blog posts and product pages
- Use social channels to push traffic back to your website
This not only helps customers discover your content, but tells search engines that your site is active, relevant, and trusted.
SEO Readiness Checklist
Before you publish, ask yourself:
- Are my keywords customer-focused and clear?
- Is my title search-friendly and relevant?
- Does my meta description explain the content and entice a click?
- Do my image names and ALT text describe the visuals?
- Have I shared or linked this content across platforms?
If not, take a few extra minutes to refine. If it’s not SEO-ready, it’s not ready.
